COMINGS AND GOINGS.
The following are some basic details of my family who are known to have 'migrated from one place to another.
William was born in Ramsey, Huntingdonshire, England about 1842. He arrived in Brisbane, Queensland on the ship Sorocco from London, England in July 1865. William married Catherine ORCHARD in Bowenfels, N.S.W. in July 1872.
DILLY (?), Rose.
Believed to have been born about 1794, place unknown. Rose was the wife of George McGRATH. Refer to George McGRATH for more details.
John was born in Stockton, Durham, England about 1859. He married Mary Ann WALLIS in Darlington, Durham, England in October 1879. His daughter, Ruth, was born in Elliott in Darlington, Durham, England in 1880. His son, Arthur, was born in Darlington, Sydney, N.S.W. in July 1888. It is believed that the family came to Australia around 1885.

Martin was born in or near Loughrea, Galway, Ireland about 1788. He enlisted in the 13th Regiment of Foot in Limerick, Ireland in 1807. He married Maria CAMPBELL in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1820. Upon discharge from the army in in 1826, Martin and his family settled in Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland.
Rosenna was born in Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland about 1834. An entry in the passenger list of the ship Courier that sailed from Greenock to Port Philip (Melbourne), Victoria in 1852 reads "Sept 10th 1852. Rosena Mahoney.
14 Age 19 found stowed away amongst the passengers". Roseanna married Thomas STEVENSON in Melbourne, Victoria in August 1853.
George was born about 1794, place unknown. He came Australia as a convict guard being part of a detachment of the 39th Regiment of Foot that sailed on the ship William Miles that arrived in Hobart, Tasmania from Downs, England in July 1828. The detachment sailed from Hobart to Sydney, N.S.W. aboard the ship Mermaid in August 1828. With George was his wife, Rose DILLY (?), and daughters including Elizabeth and Mary.

MITCHELL, Alfred John.
Alfred is believed to have been born in Helston, Cornwall, England about 1848. Alfred married Victoria Anne STEVENSON in East Charlton, Victoria in 1853. It is not known when he came to Australia.
Victoire was born in France about 1789. She was the wife of John ORCHARD. Refer to John ORCHARD for more details.
The details of John's birth are not known. He came Australia as a convict guard being part of a detachment of the 3rd Regiment of Foot that arrived in Sydney, N.S.W. from Cork, Ireland aboard the ship Southworth in March 1822. With George were his wife, Victoire NELAN, and sons, Jean Marie, Robert and Charles.

ORCHARD, Jean Marie.
Eldest son of John ORCHARD and Victoire NELEN, born France, 1817. See John ORCHARD for more details.

Thomas was born in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland around 1831. He came to Australia around 1852 - ship unknown. Thomas married Roseanna MAHONEY in Melbourne, Victoria in August 1853.
WALLIS, Mary Ann.
Mary was born in Darlington, Durham, England in 1859. She married John ELLIOTT in Darlington, Durham, England in October 1879. Her daughter, Ruth, was born in Elliott in Darlington, Durham, England in 1880. Her son, Arthur, was born in Darlington, Sydney, N.S.W. in July 1888. It is believed that the family came to Australia around 1885.
Christian was born in Germany about 1811. An English Certificate of Arrival shows that Cristian was a Native of Bremen, Germany and arrived in London in 1837.He married Sarah Ann BINER in Bethnal Green, London, England in 1844.
WARNCKEN, Christian Diedrich.
Christian was born in the East End of London in 1871. He married Agnes Maude MITCHELL in Redfern, Sydney, N.S.W. in 1912. Christian was a Marine Steward. He was Chief Steward aboard the S.S.Nerehana when she arrived in Sydney from Liverpool in January, 1908. I don't know whether this was Christian's last voyage but he was not aboard the Nerehana when she returned later that year.
